Abbreviations for types of Vietnam Visa

Temporary residence card service for foreigners.

The law stipulates the following cases in which temporary residence cards are issued:

• Foreigners who are members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations under the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations in Vietnam and their spouses, children under 18 years old, maids accompanying them for tenure;
• Foreigners entering on visas with symbols LV1, LV2, LS, DT1, DT2, DT3, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LĐ1, LĐ2, TT.

Symbols of visa types

• LV1 – Issued to persons working with departments, agencies and units directly under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam; The National Assembly, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuracy, the State Audit, ministries, ministerial-level agencies and agencies attached to the Government; provincial committees, city committees, People’s Councils, People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities.
• LV2 – Issued to people to work with socio-political organizations, social organizations, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
• LS – Issued to foreign lawyers practicing in Vietnam.
• DT1 – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with contributed capital of VND 100 billion or more or investing in industries and trades preferential for investment or geographical areas preferential for investment decided by the Government.
• DT2 – Granted to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with contributed capital valued from VND 50 billion to less than VND 100 billion or investing in industries and trades encouraged for development investment decided by the Government.
• DT3 – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with contributed capital valued from VND 03 billion to less than VND 50 billion.
• NN1 – Issued to persons who are heads of representative offices or projects of international organizations or foreign non-governmental organizations in Vietnam.
• NN2 – Issued to heads of representative offices, branches of foreign traders, representative offices of foreign economic, cultural and other professional organizations in Vietnam.
• DH – Granted to people to practice and study.
• PV1 – Issued to reporters and newspapers resident in Vietnam.
• LD1 – Issued to foreigners working in Vietnam who certify that they are not eligible for work permits, unless otherwise provided for in international treaties to which Vietnam is a contracting party.
• LD2 – Issued to foreigners working in Vietnam who are required to have a work permit.
• NG3 – Issued to members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations under the United Nations, representative offices of intergovernmental organizations and spouses, children under 18 years of age, maids accompanying them for tenure.
• TT – Issued to foreigners who are spouses, children under 18 years old of foreigners who are granted visas marked LV1, LV2, LS, DT1, DT2, DT3, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LĐ1, LĐ2 or foreigners who are fathers, mothers, spouses and children of Vietnamese citizens.

Conditions for being granted a temporary residence card

• Passport valid for 01 year or more.
• Documents proving that the foreigner’s temporary residence card is valid for at least 01 year or more (eg: Work permit,….)

Duration of temporary residence card of foreigners in Vietnam

• The duration of the temporary residence card issued is at least 30 days shorter than the remaining validity of the passport;
• Temporary residence card with symbol DT1 is valid for not more than 10 years;
• Temporary residence cards with symbols NG3, LV1, LV2, LS, DT2 and DH are valid for not more than 05 years;
• Temporary residence cards with symbols NN1, NN2, DT3, TT are valid for not more than 03 years;
• Temporary residence cards with symbols LĐ1, LĐ2 and PV1 are valid for not more than 02 years;
• Expired temporary residence cards are considered for new cards.

Application for temporary residence card

1. Dossier of application for temporary residence card for foreigners with work permits in Vietnam

• Written request of agencies, organizations and individuals to carry out procedures for invitation and guarantee.
• Declaration of application for temporary residence card with photo.
• Foreigner passport applying for temporary residence card.
• Operation certificate of the enterprise employing foreign workers (Business registration license, Investment license, operation license of VPDD, branch…… Depending on the business and the type of business, there will be different types of documents).
• Certificate of registration of seal sample or Written notice of posting information about the seal sample of the enterprise on the national portal on business registration;
• Certified copy of the work permit or work permit exemption certificate of the foreign worker.
• Register the first stamp and signature form at the Immigration office (Form NA16).
• Letter and application for temporary residence card for foreigners (Form NA6).
• Declaration of application for temporary residence card for foreigners (Form NA8).
• A referral letter for Vietnamese employees to apply for a temporary residence card at the Immigration Office.
• Original passport (Note that the passport has a visa for the right purpose of working, in case the foreign worker has previously been issued a temporary residence card, it is required to include the temporary residence card in use).
• The foreigner’s certificate of temporary residence registration or temporary residence register has been certified by the police of the ward or commune where the foreigner is temporarily residing in Vietnam (if any). In some cases, immigration authorities will require workers to provide this document.
• 02 Personal photos measuring 2cm x 3cm.

2. Dossier of application for temporary residence card for foreigners married to Vietnamese

• A written request of agencies, organizations and individuals to carry out procedures for invitation and guarantee;
• A declaration of application for a temporary residence card with a photo;
• Passport of foreigners applying for temporary residence cards;
• Notarized copy of marriage registration certificate in Vietnam or consular legalization copy of marriage note in Vietnam in case of marriage registration abroad;
• Application for sponsorship and issuance of temporary residence card for foreigners (Form NA7);
• Declaration of application for temporary residence card for foreigners (Form NA8);
• Original passport and visa (passport valid for at least 13 months and visa to enter Vietnam for the right purpose);
• 02 personal photos with dimensions of 2cm x 3cm;
• Notarized copy of Vietnamese household registration book of Vietnamese spouse;
• Notarized copy of ID card of Vietnamese spouse;

3. Dossier of application for temporary residence card for foreigners who are investors in Vietnam

• Written request of agencies, organizations and individuals to carry out procedures for invitation and guarantee.
• Declaration of application for temporary residence card with photo.
• Foreigner passport applying for temporary residence card.
• Notarized copy of Business Registration Certificate, Investment License, which shows in detail and clearly the capital contribution of the foreign investor.
• Certificate of registration of seal sample or Written notice of posting information about seal sample of enterprise on the national portal on business registration.
• Registration of the first seal and signature sample at the XNC Agency (Form NA16).
• Letter and application for temporary residence card for foreigners (Form NA6).
• Declaration of application for temporary residence card for foreigners (Form NA8).
• A referral letter for Vietnamese employees to apply for a temporary residence card at the Immigration Office.
• Original passport and visa (passport valid for at least 13 months and visa to enter Vietnam for the right purpose).
• The foreigner’s certificate of temporary residence registration or temporary residence register has been certified by the police of the ward or commune where the foreigner is temporarily residing in Vietnam.
• 02 personal photos with size 2x3cm.
